January

Russell Update
Russell is now 5 months! I can’t believe how big he is getting. It makes me so sad when I think that I have just a short time with him as a baby. I have enjoyed him so much;  Russell just always makes me happy. Having the third child was definitely the hardest, but its funny that the actual third baby is so easy—its everything else that is hard! He is happy most of the time. He only cries when he is hungry, tired, or poopy. He sleeps great—usually taking two or three couple hour naps and only gets up once to eat at night.  He always goes right back to sleep after about 10 minutes of walking and bouncing. There has only been one or two nights in his whole little life, where he had a hard time going back to sleep in the middle of the night.

He is so smiley. He loves looking at peoples faces and as soon as they smile, he smiles right back. And he has a big, open mouth, adorable smile. Sometimes when he is fussy, he’ll be crying a bit, and then he sees you smile at him, and he smiles right back as he is crying—he just can’t help himself.

About two months ago I first noticed him reaching for toys. Now he loves to always have something to be playing with and eating. Also in the last month, he discovered his hands. He will just stare at them turning them back and forth and then put them in his mouth.

He is just so sweet and cuddly. I love to just hold him on my lap and play toys with him, or talk to him or sing to him. He loves looking at my face and trying to grab and eat my hair—for now its so cute!

He rolled over from tummy to back about a week ago. I have been very bad about doing tummy time so he still isn’t great on his tummy but he’s doing better. He has almost rolled from back to tummy a few times, but just can’t quite get the last little bit.

On January 6th, we started rice cereal for the first time. At his four month appointment the doctor said he could start solids. I didn’t want to because in my mind that meant he was growing up. So I was planning on putting it off as long as possible. But then last week he started waking up twice in the night to eat, so I thought maybe he needed the extra food—and it has helped. He gets a dinner bowl of cereal just an hour or so before bed and he is sleeping great again!

Although it was a bit sad, it was actually really fun to start feeding him. It made me see him as the 5-month baby that he is. In my mind, I still think of him as a little tiny almost newborn most of the time.

Silly Spencer

Spencer always likes to pose in funny ways for the camera. At least I got one shot of him with a nice smile.

During potty-training days Spencer thought it would be fun to try the training seat on as a necklace. We barely got it off. Luckily it was clean. :)

Daddy's Day Off

Bill had a day off from work so we took the kids to the park. We fed the ducks, rode bikes all around, and played on the playground. It was mid-January and about 70 degrees. We were all hot and wished we had worn shorts! We'll be missing that weather next January in Michigan.
