Christmas Eve

We were all sick most of December and a lot of our Christmas preparations were delayed. We ended up delivering our Christmas goodies to our friends and neighbors on a very chilly Christmas Eve.  After a dinner of crockpot taco soup, we started our Christmas Eve celebration.

The kids got to open two presents--some pajamas and a Christmas ornament. Growing up, every year we would receive an ornament in our stocking. I have been carrying on that tradition since we first were married. I decided to modify the tradition a bit to Christmas Eve so they can put it on the tree before Christmas. I got everyone an ornament that represents something from this year.

Aliyah got a Baldwin Elementary ornament--representing her move to a new place, with a new school, and new friends. Spencer got a Batman ornament. After getting some superhero toys for Christmas last year, superheroes has been his main interest this entire year. Russell got a Lightning McQueen ornament--he went to Disneyland for the first time, where Cars Land had just opened, but more importantly, this year he really changed from baby to toddler. He loves playing with cars and pushes them around all over the floor, walls, and anything really, with a cute little motor sound. I got myself a snowflake ornament to represent our new life in snowy Michigan. And I got Bill an ornament that says "First Christmas in our New House" because his job moved us to Michigan and he did such a wonderful job finding us a new house here.

Somewhere between presents and our Nativity devotional, Spencer was upset about something. Russell is a very sweet baby that loves to give lots of hugs and kisses. He saw that Spencer was crying on the ground and he went over and laid on him to give him a hug and kiss. He laid with him for a minute or two, which was so very sweet.

We read and talked about the Nativity story from the Bible and the kids acted it out. We all thought of ideas of "gifts" we could give to Jesus and put our ideas in a little present box and put it under the tree. It has been nice now that the kids are getting older that they can understand more and more about Jesus' birth and life.
