February 2015

This is about what winter looked like, for 3-4 months.

Science
Aliyah participated in her first science fair. She made a "Hot dog mummy" essentially drying out a hot dog in baking soda over a period of 2-3 weeks. She also brought an extra sheep eye home from school and we dissected it together!

Russell Loves Trouble

Entire diaper and wipe packs emptied.

I found him painting his nails in Aliyah's bedroom. Miraculously there was only a speck on the carpet.

But he's turning into a big boy!

 Valentine's Day

During the day the kids had an indoor tea party picnic

Every year Bill and I take the kids out for a Valentines date. We have our own Valentine date sometime near Valentines Day. Spencer wanted to go bowling.

Bill and Aliyah went out to dinner

Our kids RARELY fall asleep outside of bedtime or in the car. And none of the transfer asleep out of the car to their beds. This one time, Russell stayed asleep on me after a car trip. I sat there for a long time, just enjoying this rare moment.

 Fat Tuesday Paczkis
There is a large Catholic population in Detroit and Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the day Lent begins. So the big thing here is to eat Polish  Paczkis (pronounced PONCH-KEES). They are:

"deep-fried balls of dough traditionally  filled with prunes and covered with powdered sugar or icing. They were originally created to use up all the fats and sugar in the house before Lent and help avoid temptation in the coming weeks. Modern Paczki are just as rich, but come in a variety of flavors."

All the local stores make their own, but the big thing is to get them from the Polish bakeries in Hamtramk, near downtown Detroit. Bill got us some real ones on his way home from work!

Father's Day Activity for preschool. A wild animal presentation with snakes, spiders, lizards, etc.

Great day at the dentist - he did a good job and no cavities!
